ENGLISH: (BEHAN, FERRANTE, VETTER)
This week in English, students continued working on The Testing. We completed a series of activities to analyze characters and plot development in the novel. Students were assigned the final writing piece for the unit, a RAFT writing piece. The written assignment will ask students to present an argument using persuasive language from the perspective of a character. The final written piece is due Thursday, April 21. Next week we will finish reading The Testing and wrap up the unit.
FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES: (Stern)
Students will be working on a career research project next week. Project is to be completed by Friday, April 22. They will analyze the specific skills and the education and training they will need for the career they choose. They have two forms that need to be signed by a parent/guardian describing the project requirements and supplies needed. These forms are to be returned to me by next Tuesday.
FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES: (Berman)
This week, students took a personality survey to match them up with possible future careers. Using their result, they created a fake future for which they had to create a monthly budget which included finding a house and a car and calculating their cost. The students then chose two careers that interested them the most to research. Next week, we will begin our sewing unit. Each 7th grade student will be responsible for bringing in a bag of Fiber Fill to use for the pillow they will be sewing. Fiber Fill is due May 9th.
HEALTH: (LEIBOWITZ, GLASSER)
This week in health the students are learning about the dangers of tobacco products. We are engaging in different activities that enable students to identify the negative impact that tobacco products have on a person's life. We will also be educating the students on the dangers of electronic cigarettes

SCIENCE: (CAMACHO, KALNER, TOBIA)
This week in science, students completed the study of the circulatory system. The culminating project, "How do humans make energy?" will be due next week. Students will create a poster describing how the Digestive, Respiratory, and Circulatory Systems work together to create energy in the human body. In addition to the poster, a research paper on a disease or disorder of one of the systems must be included with proper citations. This project counts as a unit exam, which is the final assessment for this unit. Next week, we will be conducting a virtual and actual frog dissection, focusing on comparative anatomy.
SOCIAL STUDIES: (COOK, HOFFMAN, MARR)
This week students looked at Andrew Jackson and learned how this populist President fundamentally changed democracy in the United States. We ended the week by reading a current events article and relating it to the current election cycle. Next week we will look at the growing movement west and the concept of Manifest Destiny. Mr. Cook will be reviewing for a test on Andrew Jackson. The Thematic Essay question will be: Was Andrew Jackson a Hero or a Villain?
