ART:
Next week we will be continuing to work on our folders. The students have researched ideas for the front of their folders, they may need to do some homework in this area. Also, the students are bringing home a "Welcome to Art" letter which explains what is expected of them in the art classroom. This should be signed by them and a parent. Thank you, Mrs. Knoop
ENGLISH:
This past week in English, we continued getting accustomed to our Expert 21 program. In addition, we visited our writing portfolios and reflected on the work we've done in the past as well as where we want to go from here. Students are encouraged to look back on their writing and work towards developing their skills and improving. We were also introduced to the first independent reading assignment. We will read a novel and write an essay based on the character's goals. An informational handout was provided with a detailed description of the assignment, which will be due October 16th, 2013. In the upcoming week, we will be reading "The Explosion" and "Call Me Maria", both excerpts in our workbooks. We will be taking an SRI exam on September 24th, an online assessment of reading, or lexile, level. Each student will get a recommended reading list along with their score that they can take home. Please encourage your child to share these results with you. I look forward to meeting you all at Back to School Night next week on the 25th. Much more information about English class throughout the year will be presented to you then.
