ART:
We are finishing up the Native American Shields this week. They will decorate the cafeteria and some will be put into the District Art Show in May. They are coming very nice. Be looking for a rubric next week, Nov. 1-5.
ENGLISH:
This week we had our second inquiry test, based on the last three readings of Workshop One. In addition, students were assigned a personal narrative writing assignment. The rough draft was due this past Thursday, and the class engaged in peer-editing. The final copy is due October 30th, 2013. We also had an introduction to our first whole class novel, Rumble Fish, by S.E. Hinton. Students were given copies, and you should expect these to be read at home as well as in class. Upcoming: we will work with Rumble Fish, the importance of characterization, point of view, and author's purpose. There have been a number of students who have not been completing their homeworks in a timely fashion. Please remind your children that homework is an integral part of being successful in the classroom and as a student. The end of the quarter is a few short weeks away; students have every opportunity to make up owed work, but they must show some initiative.MATHEMATICS:

SCIENCE:
Science Fair topic ideas. This week in science we completed Unit One with our first unit exam on Thursday, October 24. The next unit of study will be, the microscope and cell. The next Science Symposium library research date is Tuesday, October 29. This will be our 3rd visit to the library dedicated to Science Symposium research. Students received a Project Timetable and were instructed to keep it in the science fair section of their binders. This sheet lists all the project requirements with their respective deadlines. A Science Symposium Informational Packet will be sent home, which will include all the project requirements, project deadlines and grading rubrics. All project titles must be finalized and approved the teacher by November 1 (the next deadline). Experimentation should not begin before then.
