PTA Update February 12

The 7th Grade will be taking a field trip to the 9/11 Memorial on Thursday May 12, 2016. The trip will leave school at 7:00am and return to school approximately 4:30pm. The cost of the trip is $130.00 for a Coach Bus, admission, and a trip around NYC on Spirit Cruises. Permission slips have been backpacked home.  A deposit of $100.00 is due by 2/12/2016. ENGLISH: (BEHAN, FERRANTE, VETTER)
This week in English, students worked to complete the final project for Rumble Fish.  Students analyzed the novel in a variety of ways and were given class time to work on the written requirements of the piece.  The project due date is Wednesday, February 24.  Enjoy the winter recess!

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES: (Stern)
 
Students have been working on some basic hand stitches this week.  All students should be able to sew on a button and fix a hem by the end of the week.  After break they will be working on a hand sewing project.

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES: (Berman)
 This week we have been working on our "All About Me Movie Trailer Presentations" in the computer lab. Students brought in photos and videos to help them create a movie trailer for a movie featuring them. When we return from break, students will present their movie trailers to the class. We will also be looking at Goal Setting, Decision Making and Self-Esteem. Have a great vacation!

HEALTH: (LEIBOWITZ, GLASSER) 
This week in health we are discussing goals, both short-term and long-term.  The students are identifying the importance of setting goals and how having goals help us make healthier decisions.

SCIENCE: (CAMACHO, KALNER, TOBIA)
This week in Science we continued to discuss the Digestive System. Upon return from the break, we will wrap up Digestion and move into the Respiratory System which is the second system in our energy unit.  Have a wonderful week off.

SOCIAL STUDIES: (COOK, HOFFMAN, MARR)

 Next week we will conclude our study of the Constitution with an examination of the rights that all Americans possess. We will discuss Constitutional Supreme Court Cases and spend a few days discussing specific freedoms and rights as applied to students. We will end the week reading an excerpt from the book, Little Brother by Cory Doctorov. For Mr. Cook: 
The week after break, we will be starting our chapter on the First U.S. Presidents.  Washington, Jefferson, Adams, the Electoral College, and powers of the President will be discussed at great detail.
