PTA Update Week 18

English:

This past week we worked on recognizing nouns in sentences to better improve our writing. We also responded to our friends in Uganda with our pen pal letters. Students  really enjoyed reading their responses to us. Next week we begin work on Workshop 3 in the Expert 21 book, entitled "Nature's Fury". We will explore questions relating to how we prepare ourselves for conflict and how communities come together to help each other in times of crisis.

Health:

This week wraps up your child's health course.  We are sad to see them go!  It's been a pleasure to have all of your children in our classes.  Our biggest message to your children are that the choices you make now matter! We hope you all have a wonderful rest of the year!

Science:

This week in science, we completed the semester with the midterm exam. Friday, Team 7-2 students participated in  a "team day". We watched a movie called, "Cyber-Bully". The movie was followed  up with reflective questions that related the movie to student experiences on-line and in school as part of the Health curriculum. Next week in science, we will begin the study of the Digestive System.

Social Studies:

Next week we will complete our study of the Constitutional Convention and begin our study of the layout of our nation’s Constitution. Next Friday we will pause from this study to begin working on an iPad iMovie project students will be completing in class the following week. More information will follow.

PTA Update Week 17

The 7th Grade will be traveling to Philadelphia on May 7th.  Permission slips were handed out today. We need a headcount by February 6th. Deposit of $60 is due on February 6th.

English

This week we culminated our Rumble Fish experience with a scrapbook gallery walk. Students had to bring in their completed scrapbook projects. We viewed each book and were able to write comments, all positive, about individual ones which stood out. We have also taken our second SRI online test, which continues to measure students' lexile, or reading, levels. These scores are diagnostic and do not count in their second quarter average. Students go home with a recommended reading report, which I have asked them to share with you. Next week, we will spend a few days working on a grammar review, as well as respond to the pen pal letters we have finally received from our Ugandan counterparts. The students are quite eager to get their hands on these! Friday marks the end of the quarter. Any overdue work must be in before then.
