ART:

By now you should have signed your child's first rubric in art.  It was the grades for the front and the back of their folders.  Next week we are working on a Native American Shield, it is a cross-curriculum project with Social Studies. Each student was taken in the computer lab to research their animal/image, next step is to draw that image, then color with color pencil. If your child is falling behind they should stay for extra help.

ENGLISH:

This past week we completed reading "We Beat the Street". Students discussed the difficulties of meeting with challenges as we attempt to achieve our goals. They also worked collaboratively to analyze the reading. Students received their Inquiry test scores...overall, the classes performed quite well. They've also been introduced to the online Expert Space and researched a few a articles. Upcoming: The independent reading assignment is due on October 16th. They should be completing their novels and writing an essay based on the character's goals in the novel they read. We will also complete our Workshop 1 work by reading "Start Your Own Business" and "What's Your Life's Blueprint?" Remember that extra helps are on Wednesdays and Fridays. Encourage your children to attend. Reminder: the Philadelphia trip is on Thursday! dress appropriately for the weather.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

Have a happy Columbus Day! We have a short week thanks to Columbus Day and the Philadelphia trip on Thursday. I will be attending a conference on Friday as well, so when we return this week we will be examining if Columbus is a hero or villain based on primary source evidence from the Age of Exploration. This is our introduction to the Age of Exploration, and we will spend the rest of the week looking at various motives in the Age of Exploration. We end the week looking at the real impact of economic policy on both the New and Old World.
