PTA Update- January 8

ENGLISH: (BEHAN, FERRANTE, VETTER)

Happy New Year! This week, students read "Raymond's Run" in their Expert 21 books. They also finished their essays on theme for their independent reading assignment by creating a rough draft, peer editing, and revising. The essay was due today, Friday, January 8th. Next week, students will take their second SRI reading diagnostic of the year. They will also read the next two selections in Workshop Two and have their second Inquiry Test on Friday, January 15th.

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES: (Stern)

Students will be working on their pillow project the next two weeks.  They will be using their hand sewing skills and sewing machine skills to create an original pillow.
Students will need to bring in a bag of stuffing to stuff their pillows.

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES: (BERMAN)

This week in Home & Careers the students typed up recipes that they brought in from home. These recipes will be contributed to a Team 7-1 cookbook. We also made our own granola and yogurt parfaits. Next week, we are cooking all week! The students are excited to make Veggie Fried Rice, Blueberry Muffins and Spaghetti and Meatballs.

HEALTH: (LEIBOWITZ, GLASSER)

This week in health we are continuing the drug prevention unit.  We are discussing short-term and long-term effects of illegal drugs.  The students are learning the social impact of abusing drugs and how that abuse will impact them as individuals as well as those around them.

SOCIAL STUDIES: (COOK, HOFFMAN, MARR)

Next week we will spend the entire week reviewing for the quarterly exam which will be on Wednesday January 20, Thursday January 21, and Friday January 22. While we are giving students three days to complete the DBQ, the third day has been provided to allow students time to finish writing the DBQ essay they are completing on the second day. A quizlet review sheet is available on http://www.team72.co.  Mr. Cook: Next week we will be starting a research project in the computer lab where we will be analyzing and dissecting the U.S. Constitution.  Each student in the class will be responsible for either an article or an amendment (Bill of Rights).  Following  the research and compilation, the students will be presenting their findings to the class the following week.
