PTA Update April 20 - 24

English

This week, the ELA was administered. During classes, students worked on a culminating in-class assignment for the novel The Testing. All novels must be returned by this week. Next week, we will begin our "Breaking Barriers" unit. We will explore such questions as: how do we protect our rights, how does an individual affect society, is it an individual or a movement that effects change? Students will work in their Expert 21 books once again using the fourth workshop. Students will also be introduced to their fourth quarter research project.

Mathematics

Next week we will continue reviewing Chapters 1 - 10. Have a nice weekend!

Science

Welcome back and to the fourth quarter!!! This week in science, the culminating project for the Digestive, Circulatory, and Respiratory Systems was assigned, and is due April 28. Students worked in the computer lab Monday and Tuesday to research a disorder of one of the body systems and began writing their research paper. Many students worked very diligently and finished or are close to finishing the paper portion of the project. The remaining work on the project must be completed on their own; at home, at extra help, or during lunchtime.  Wednesday, students completed a web quest as an introductory exploration of  the Nervous System, which is the next unit of study. Thursday and Friday, students continued their investigation of Regulation in the human body. Human Body Handout.

Social Studies

This Tuesday we will be having a unit test on the Early Presidents. We have been creating an interactive flip book since before break, and the contents of this book are on the test. The rest of the week we will be discussing the ideals of Manifest Destiny and the movement of Americans to achieve the American Dream.
