PTA Update Week 10

Please visit http://www.team72.co for links and handouts.
Please text @team1314 to 1-347-2465 to join the team 7-2 SMS list. All students are required to have a school issued lock.

ART:The students have finished their  Native American Shields and paragraph, on why they chose that spirit animal or design. They were given a rubric with their grade, which should be signed by a guardian and returned to me for 2 points. Their shields will be displayed throughout the school. They did a great job, this was a  cross-curriculum project with Social Studies. This week we start a new cartooning project, this will tie in with their learning about the human body in Science. Mrs. Knoop

ENGLISH:

We spent this past week completing the novel Rumble Fish and working on the project for it, which is a scrapbook from the point of view of the main character. We also spent some class time reviewing proper structure and formatting of our writing. Next week, the students will need to hand in the project (on November 19th). We will also visit the library to search for a new novel to read for our next independent assignment. As this week was the start of the new quarter, students have been reminded that we start fresh, but that expectations are high. Please encourage your children to read daily and to complete their assignments in a timely fashion. As a reminder, extra help for English is held on Wednesdays and Fridays.

MATHEMATICS:
All students performed nicely for the 1st Quarter.  I hope to see the same if not more effort put forth this quarter.  Have a wonderful weekend!
Accelerated: We will begin Chapter 6 - Percents on Monday.
Regular: We will begin Chapter 4 - Inequalities on Monday.

SCIENCE:
SCIENCE FAIR TOPIC IDEAS. Students went to the computer lab twice this week to work on the research paper and work cited page for Science Symposium. The deadline for the research paper was extended to Tuesday, November 19. The background research should be a minimum of one page typed or a maximum of three pages typed.  Ms. Van Loon, our library-media specialist, pushed into our classes at the computer lab and taught students the proper format for their work cited page. The format being used has been uploaded to each student’s Google Drive for reference.   LBMS has a science research club that typically meets on Wednesdays in room 120. This club is designed to provide support to students who are interested in possibly competing in science competitions following our own Science Symposium. A quiz on the microscope was given this week and we are moving forward into an in-depth study of the cell.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week we will be looking at colonial society. A quiz will be given on colonial geography Monday. The rest of the week will be an examination of New England, Middle, and Southern societies. Crime, Punishment, and social norms will be examined both today and in colonial America.
