Please remind your children that they are responsible for writing their homework down in their agendas everyday. We cannot always rely on the online homework as internet and network problems may sometimes occur.

ENGLISH:
This past week we culminated our reading in Workshop Three. Students took an X-Skills test, which measured their ability to utilize the critical reading skills we worked with during the workshop as well as their knowledge of the vocabulary within the readings. Students received their scores on Thursday. In addition, students received their scores for the Freak the Mighty Case Study. Please encourage them to share their scores with you.
As we move through this quarter we are beginning to review more critical reading and writing skills expected from seventh grade students. It is crucial that they complete their homework in a thoughtful fashion. The ELA is being administered during the first week of April and students have been given a workbook that will help address the different skills the students need to be successful in the future. Finally, next week we are beginning a new unit: Fight for your Rights- Life in the Hunger Games. We will explore various life thematic questions, such as "Are people basically good?", "Is legal always moral?", "Is it necessary to sacrifice to fight against injustice?" and "Can an individual implement change in a society?" The unit will last approximately four week, and will incorporate other subject areas as well.
FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE:
Students will complete their Informational Career Brochures, conduct oral presentations about their career choices and begin a Sewing Unit.
MATHEMATICS:
Common Assessment Exam # 3 will be administered on Friday March 14th. Please make sure that your child starts studying over the weekend. Bigideasmath.com is a great website to use for study purposes. Math Accelerated will be tested on Chapters 1 - 11. Math 7 will be tested on Chapters 1 - 9. Have a wonderful weekend!
SCIENCE:
This week we started the Circulatory System and have just finished up the parts of the heart. Students just took a quiz and we will be finishing up with this unit of body systems this coming wee. There will be a unit test and a culminating project at the end of this unit. Extra help has also been adjusted due to Science Congress and will be an hour for the next two weeks on Thursdays so students may still split the time with Science and Math. For those participating in Science Congress, we will be meeting after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Research Club for any necessary requirements or adjustments to their projects.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
We wrapped up our reading of the Cory Doctorov's book, Little Brother this week. Students wrote a letter to the government (quiz grade!) explaining the experience of Marcus in the reading, who was picked up after a terrorist attack and detained as a possible enemy combatant. We then looked at the impact of individuals such as Edward Snowden. This week we will examine the first steps of the United States under the Constitution. We will examine all the trouble, questions, and issues that rise when new governments are created.
