Please visit http://www.team72.co for links and handouts. Please text @team1314 to 1-347-2465 to join the team 7-2 SMS list. All students are required to have a school issued lock.

ENGLISH:This past week, we completed our reading of Freak the Mighty. Students have been assigned a final project for the novel, and it has been explained. The project requires them to complete a case study of the main character, Max, from the point of view of a guidance counselor. A format has been provided for them to complete. It is due on February 10th. They should focus on the accuracy of details from the novel and voice. We are also beginning to explore Workshop Three, Nature's Fury, in the Expert 21 book. This workshop includes various selections about different natural disasters. We will also view some short video footage of different natural disasters that have occurred. In light of the fact that we as a community survived a storm ourselves, I encourage you to scan the workshop's selections. If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact me.

FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES:Students will be introduced to the class curriculum, policy and procedures. They will create their own class rules, volunteer for class job assignments and start the entrepreneurial unit.

MATHEMATICS:

We look forward to see the student volunteers at The Polar Bear Swim!  Have a wonderful Super Bowl weekend.
The first Performance Task of the 3rd Quarter was handed out.  I hope that the students really get into this task.  The Performance Task is due on February 14th.  The next unit exam will also be on February 14th.

Accelerated: We will continue working on Chapter 10: Probability and Statistics.

Regular:  We will continue on Chapter 6: Percents.

SCIENCE:Congratulations to all who participated in the Long Beach Middle School Science Symposium!  Everyone did a wonderful job! We are completing our unit of study on the Digestive System and will be having a Unit Test Wednesday, February 5. A Digestive System display sheet was also assigned and will be due next week. This is the first unit test and project of the third quarter.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week we finish our government unit with an examination of the rights and freedoms of all Americans. Looking at the Bill of Rights, we will examine how these rights are used on a daily basis. We will also be reading an excerpt from Little Brother to discuss the nature of rights in a post 9/11 world.
