PTA Update February 26

NYC permission slip and deposit has been extended to Monday, February 29. All students were provided with an opportunity to fund-raise to offset the cost of the trip. Miss Chocolate Fundraising has been extended to Friday, March 4, If there is a financial issue, please send in permission slip with a note indicating a payment schedule. 

ENGLISH: (BEHAN, FERRANTE, VETTER)This week in English, students started Expert 21, Workshop 3.  Workshop 3 focuses on the essential question, "How can we deal with natural disasters?"  Students viewed the anchor media to introduce the workshop and completed the "Meet the Expert" pages in the Expert 21 workbook.  Students also viewed videos and read articles that analyzed the impact that different natural disasters have had on our world in the past.  The final project for Rumble Fish, Rusty-James's scrapbook, was due on Wednesday, February 24.  All books should have been returned when the project was turned in.  Next week we will continue working in Workshop 3, and students will take Inquiry 1 exam on Friday, March 4. 

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES: (Stern)Students are working on a hand sewing project.  They should finish project by next Tues. and begin with sewing machines.

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES: (Berman)This week in Home & Careers, students focused on setting goals, self-esteem, self-concept and decision making. Next week we will be learning about family structures and transitioning into our Cooking Unit. Each student will be asked to bring in a recipe that is meaningful to them and their family to contribute to a Team 7-2 Cookbook.

HEALTH: (LEIBOWITZ, GLASSER)  No update provided

MATHEMATICS: (FERNANDEZ, REHNBACK, MCWILLIAMS) Next Unit Exam is on March 4th.

SCIENCE: (CAMACHO, KALNER, TOBIA)
Students completed their study of the Digestive System this week. A lab activity investigated the structures of the digestive tract by building models with yarn. Digestive System display sheets, started in class must be completed at home and are due on Monday, February 29. The Respiratory System is the next unit of study.

SOCIAL STUDIES: (COOK, HOFFMAN, MARR) Next week we will complete our examination of the rights and freedoms Americans possess under the Bill of Rights and how these rights interact with the need of the National Government to protect us. Mr. Hoffman will be reading an excerpt from "Little Brother" by Cory Doctorov. Dr. Marr has completed the reading and will be discussing Chapter 10 and Supreme Court case. Mr. Cook will be exploring the impact the first U.S. Presidents had on America.  The precedents of George Washington, the perceived ineffectiveness of John Adams, and the accomplishments of Thomas Jefferson will be analyzed in detail.
