PTA Update Week 16

English

Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable vacation and is recharged for a new year. This past week in English, we continued working on the novel Rumble Fish. As of Friday, the novel reading is complete. A scrapbook project was introduced to the students, which will be due on Wednesday, January 21st. The project outline was explained in class to the students is posted on our team website, www.team72.co and will remain until after the project is due. We will spend next week completing plot element activities pertaining to the novel, and students will have in-class time built in to work on the scrapbook components.

Health

This week in health we are continuing our drug unit.  We are answering the question, "How can we help ourselves and others make healthy choices in terms of drug use?"  We are exploring the realities of drug addiction.  The students will be engaging in activities that will help them practice refusal skills to increase their prepardness in real life situations.  Please send back permission skips for the sexuality unit if you haven't done so already.  Thank you!

Mathematics

Happy New Year!  It was nice meeting some of you last night.  I look forward to meeting the rest of you next week.

Accelerated:  All students received back the Chapter 7 Unit Exam.  All exams need to be signed and test corrections are due on Friday January 16th.  We started Chapter 8 - Area and Perimeter this week.  We will have our next Unit Exam on Friday January 16th.

Regular: All students received back the Chapter 5 Unit Exam.  All exams need to be signed and test corrections are due on Friday January 16th. We started Chapter 6 - Percents.  We will have our next Unit Exam on Friday January 30th.

Science

This week in science students continue to study the skeletal system. A unit test will be given on next Friday, January 16 on the skeletal system. Skeletal display sheets are due next Friday, January 16. An extra credit assignment has been offered in this unit. Students can research a bone disease or disorder and write a one page paper due next Friday. A midterm exam will be given the last week of January. The midterm will be a cumulative. Students should begin to review notes.

Social Studies

This week we will conclude our study of the American Revolution. Students will be working on a Document -Based Question (DBQ) on the American Revolution which will count as a test for chapter 7 in the TCI workbook. We have our quarterly exam on January 21 and January 22. Students must completed 45 multiple choice questions plus complete an entire DBQ in this two-day period. Extra help is Thursdays and Fridays. A review sheet and quizlet will be put on my website by next week to help prepare students.
