ART:
The students finished their Native American Shields and paragraph on Friday, Nov.1st. If your child did not finish they must stay for extra help next week on Tuesday for one hour. Nov. 8th is the end of the quarter all projects (3) must be completed by that date or a failing grade will result. Thank you, Mrs. Knoop.ENGLISH:
This past week students received the novel Rumble Fish. We have read through chapter five and will need to read through chapter 7 for Monday. Throughout the reading, we will be analyzing the characters, their actions and reasons for them. We will also be going through the text to delve into themes of identity and influence. In addition, students need to complete a scavenger hunt online about the author, S.E. Hinton, and hand it in by Monday. On Thursday, students received their scores for their literary essays and completed a reflection of the piece. This reflection was sent home, requiring a parent signature to help you be aware of how your child performed. The piece itself remains in the student's portfolio, which will follow them throughout the middle and high school. Next week, we continue to work on Rumble Fish. Students were introduced to a culminating unit project on Friday that they can begin working on before the novel's completion. As always, please encourage your child to keep up with his/her reading, be prepared, and work thoughtfully on all their assignments.MATHEMATICS:

SCIENCE:
Science Fair topic ideas. Students went to the library this week to continue research
for science symposium projects. Project titles were finalized on Friday,
November 1. Science Symposium informational packets were distributed this week.
The packet contains: statement of purpose, guidelines, timeline, due dates and
all rubrics being used to assess each component of the project. The next
deadline for the project is for students to fill out the back page of the
packet and have it signed by a parent/guardian and returned by Monday, November
4. This page must include- the title of the experiment, and if working with a
partner, where the experiment is being conducted (whose house?). This
information must be approved by each parent/guardian. We have started the study of the microscope (history,
development of, and types of microscopes) this week. We discussed the
importance of Lab Safety in classroom and when conducting science experiments
in general. Students will take part in a Microscope lab next week and we will
begin an in depth study of the cell.
