ENGLISH:
Students completed their Rumble Fish Scrapbooks this past week and had an opportunity to view others' work. We have also visited the library to get novels for our second quarter Independent Reading Assignment. This assignment will require the students to read and then write an essay that centers around the novel's theme. This will be due on Tuesday, December 17th. Specifics will be discussed and reviewed in class, but students need to remember that work must be done at home as well. In addition, we will begin Workshop Two in the Expert 21 book, "Sports Inquiry". We will explore various essential questions, such as "How much is one willing to sacrifice to achieve what they want?" and "Do we care too much about competition and winning?" Finally, we will hold our seventh grade Colonial Day on Wednesday.
MATHEMATICS: Accelerated: We will continue with Chapter 6 next week. Team 7-2 will participate in a Team Activity on Wednesday celebrating Colonial Day.
Regular: We will continue with Chapter 4 next week. Team 7-2 will participate in a Team Activity on Wednesday celebrating Colonial Day.
SCIENCE:
SCIENCE FAIR TOPIC IDEAS. An in-depth investigation of the cell concluded this week in science class. The culminating activity in science lab this week, students had an opportunity to view their very own cheek cells under the compound microscope and compared them to onion cells (Plant cell vs. Animal cell). A quiz on plant and animal cells (organelles, structure and function and lab activity) will take place next Tuesday, November 26. Science Symposium deadlines are coming due quickly! The research paper and work cited page was extended to Tuesday, November 19. Hypothesis and materials were due Thursday, November 21, 2013 (handwritten was acceptable). The next deadline is Tuesday, November 26: Problem, Hypothesis, Materials and Procedure must be typed and printed to be handed in. 7th grade science students will be going to the library on Monday, November 25 specifically for typing these components. I have asked all students come prepared with a handwritten copy of their problem, hypothesis, materials and detailed procedures, to ensure maximum productivity of this library/computer time. Science Research Club has been meeting on Wednesdays in room 120 to assist all students with science symposium projects. If a student has an interest in competing in local science competitions, this club is an extra resource or support for students. Colonial Day will be celebrated all of team 7-2’s -team classes next Wednesday. Science classes will explore colonial medicine and apothecary.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
We have finished looking at colonial American society. Monday and Tuesday students will have an open notes, open book project that will be due on Tuesday afternoon. I will be staying on Tuesday to help all students complete the project. This Wednesday we will be "getting our hands dirty" as students participate in a "Colonial Day" at LBMS. Students will be completing different colonial activities in team classes. We expect to have a lot of educational fun and excitement on this day. Be aware that Wednesday is also our "go home early" drill. Students will be leaving school fifteen minutes early.
